    King Soopers is on STRIKE! What does that mean for us? We must be vigilant in supporting our fellow Union Sisters and Brothers as they navigate this Labor/Management dispute. Members of the UFCW Local 7 voted by 95% to strike, which means that 7600 members of the 8000 voted to strike. This being said, we can not cross the picket line.

    Brothers and Sisters,  Sister Gilchrist has set up a MealTrain to support Kellie, Bear, and their family.     December 21, 2021, 2:45 a.m. - Local members responded to a fire alarm at the Trailside Apartments near S. Twenty Mile Road and Mainstreet in Parker, CO. Parker Police arrived on the scene and stated that black smoke was coming from one of the residences. First arriving units searched the unit and found smoke. The complex's fire sprinklers successfully extinguished the fire.

    At 2:14 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021, multiple 911 callers reported a column of black smoke rising from the roof of the Red Robin restaurant located at 9130 Crown Crest Blvd. in Parker. While enroute, members observed the smoke from miles away.
    Carlyle Park Circle Multi Family Structure Fire
    12/22/21 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    December 19, 2021 – 11:19 a.m., South Metro Fire Rescue’s Dispatch Center started to receive 9-1-1 calls stating smoke was visible from a townhome on Carlyle Park Circle in unincorporated Douglas County. Once Local members from the first arriving units saw the reported smoke billowing from the attic eaves, the call was upgraded to a confirmed multi-family structure fire response.

    Around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday December 18, 2021, South Metro began receiving multiple calls for grass fires occurring at fireworks shows in Douglas County. Initially there were 4 brush fires reported, but 2 of those were callers reporting the same fire.

    At 10:38 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, SMFR responded to Highway 85 and Chatridge Court in Douglas County after multiple 911 callers reported a grass fire. Upon arrival, Local members observed a fast-moving grass fire on the northeast side of the intersection spreading uphill with homes threatened.

    Brother and Sisters,  The Bernal Family and Sister Keelan have expressed their sincerest gratitude for the support, prayers, and concern we have all provided.  They still ask for privacy through this grieving process. Details are still limited at this time regarding his passing, and information will be forwarded regarding his arrangements as soon as they become available.
    South Broadway House Explosion

    On Sunday December 12, 2021 at 10:45 a.m., South Metro received a call for a gas odor and explosion at a home in the 5900 block of S. Broadway near the intersection of S. Broadway and E. Orchard Rd. The people in the house at the time were from out of town and renting the residence during their visit in Colorado.

    Brother Chris Bernal

    Dear Brothers and Sisters, It is with a heavy heart to report the passing of Brother Chris Bernal. Chris was a Fire Fighter Assigned to Engine 19 B-shift and was in his 9th year on the job. He was an excellent firefighter and a great asset to our fire department family, and all will incredibly miss him. The cause of his death is unknown now, and we all must lean on each other so we can endure through these days, weeks, and months to come.
    C470 Tanker Roll Over with Hazmat

    At 07:31 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, Local members responded to a traffic collision involving a tanker truck on the off ramp from westbound C-470 to Santa Fe Drive in Douglas County. First arriving Battalion Chief 1 found the tanker tipped over with diesel fuel actively spilling onto the roadway. Thankfully the driver escaped without injuries and no other vehicles were involved.
