    Nominations for Delegates & Alternates to the 2020 IAFF Convention will be held at the February Union meeting on February 5th at 7:00 pm & February 6th at 8:30 am at 12 Lakeside Lane, Denver, Colorado 80212. Nominees will have the opportunity to speak at the Union meeting on March 4th at 7:00 pm & March 5th at 8:30 am.

    Denver Fire Fighters Local 858 Offices will be closed January 20th  thru January 22nd  for the IAFF Affiliate Leadership Training Summit and Human Relations Conference.  We will return to regular operating hours on January 23rd.  If you need immediate assistance, please contact your District Vice President or Principle Officer.
    Downing St. Structure Fire

    Around 3:45am Monday, January 13th Local members responded to a house fire in the 3600 block of S. Downing St. in Cherry Hills Village. When members arrived on scene they found a house fully involved in fire and immediately began fighting the fire defensively from the outside of the structure.

    Good Monday Morning, 9-Ball - Today and tomorrow is the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation 25th Annual Scotch Doubles 9 Ball Tournament. It's at the Wynkoop Brewing Company and begins both days at 11 am. $30 per two-person team and $40 per three-person team. See Poster for additional information.

    South Delaware St. Vehicle into a Building

    At 6:21 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, Local member responded to multiple reports of a vehicle accident involving a structure at 5331 S. Delaware Street in Littleton. A sedan traveling westbound on Rafferty Gardens Ave. crossed over Delaware Street, collided with a parked car, then struck an apartment building.
    January Union Meeting Reminder

    Happy New Year!!! With the holiday being this week and per our Union By-Laws, Article VIII, Section 1, If the first Wednesday or Thursday is a holiday, the regular meetings will be held on the second Wednesday and Thursday. This means that the January Union Meeting will be January 8th @ 7 pm and January 9th @ 8:30 am.

    Battalion Chief Christ Memorial

    Today marks the 10th anniversary of Battalion Chief Jeffrey Christ’s line of duty death while with Littleton Fire Rescue. Battalion Chief Christ gave 27 years of selfless and dedicated service to our communities and unfortunately died of a job-related brain tumor.

    At 04:43 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019, Littleton Police officers investigating an alarm at the Rubios Coastal Grill, located 111 W. Mineral Ave., discovered smoke and windows warm to the touch. Officers requested a structure fire response from South Metro and members were dispatched.

    E. Lake Way Structure Fire

    Around 9:20 on Wednesday December 25th, Local members responded to a house fire in the 3500 block of E. Lake Way in Centennial. The homeowner was not home at the time, but was notified of the fire when the camera on their ring doorbell sensed movement as another family member came running out of the house. SMFR Engine 14 arrived on scene to find the back of the home fully involved in fire.

Today will be business as usual but, the rest of the week will be appointment only.     Chief Jackson Funeral

    On Friday December 20th family, friends and emergency responders from across Colorado gathered at Denver First Church to honor the life of Assistant Chief Troy Jackson. This heartbreaking day was made easier by the incredible support that the Jackson family and South Metro Fire Rescue received from our community and partner agencies.

    At 1:07 on Saturday December 21st, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a second alarm apartment fire in the 8400 block of S. Reed St. in unincorporated Jefferson County. Initial reports stated there were multiple people trapped, residents were jumping from their apartment units and cars were on fire as well.

    Chief Jackson Dignified Honor Transfer
    12/16/19 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    This morning Local members gathered at UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital to support the family and friends of Assistant Chief Troy Jackson. The SMFR Honor Guard provided dignified honors during a small procession to Crown Hill Mortuary. Honor watch began immediately and members will remain with Chief Jackson 24 hours a day until his memorial service.

    With great sadness, South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) announces the Line of Duty Death of former Assistant Chief of Operations Troy Jackson who passed away peacefully this morning, December 16, 2019. In 2013 Chief Jackson was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare job-related terminal cancer.
