    Mountain Brush St. Structure Fire
    07/27/21 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    July 22, 2021, 6:08 p.m., as a strong thunderstorm moved through the area, Local members responded to a residential structure fire on Mountain Brush Street in Unincorporated Douglas County. First arriving members from Engine 17 confirmed that the home had fire showing from the roofline and pulled initial hose lines to fight the fire and to start setting up a water supply.
    Station 35 Driveway Trash Fire

    At 1:53 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, a Waste Management driver noticed smoke coming from the trash compartment of his vehicle and quickly looked for a safe location to dump the burning garbage. That safe spot ended up being in front of SMFR Station 35, located at Peoria and Arapahoe in Centennial.

    Funeral services for Technician Patrick John Mahan will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Denver First Church, 3800 E. Hampden Ave., Englewood, CO.  Members wishing to attend the service should do so in a Class A uniform.  Shrouding of badges will be allowed this day in honor of our fallen brother.
    Downing Circle West Exterior Fire
    07/21/21 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    At 8:01 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, SMFR received 911 reports of bushes on fire in the front yard of a home in the 6700 block of S. Downing Circle West. Dispatchers received additional information that the home was starting to burn, and a structure fire response was sent. A passing motorist on Arapahoe Road saw the smoke, parked his vehicle out of the way and alerted the occupant of the home.
    Denver Firefighters Annual Summer Picnic

    The Denver Firefighters Local 858 Annual Summer Picnic will be at Chatfield State Park Group Camping Sites, August 5th through August 8th.  There are two types of sites available, electric and non-electric. Electric sites (20/30/50 amp service) will be $40 per night, and non-electric will be $20 per night.

    Just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 14, 2021, residents of a home in the 16500 block of E. Hialeah Dr. heard a smoke alarm sounding in the basement, grabbed a fire extinguisher and investigated what was happening. They encountered a light haze of smoke throughout the basement and discovered one room completely filled with smoke.

    On Tuesday afternoon, July 17th, Local members, family and friends gathered to celebrate the retirement of Captain Dick Chesnick after 34 years serving the South Metro community.     Arapahoe Road Car vs. Building
    07/18/21 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    July 12, 2021, just before 1 p.m., Local members were dispatched to a vehicle into a building near Arapahoe and Peoria Road in Centennial, CO. Members found the vehicle to have heavy impingement into the Stinker Gas Station. Initially, no one reported injuries, but one person was later transported for non-life-threatening injuries.
    Charitable Foundation Fund for the Baker and Mahan Families

    The Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation has created a fund at the Denver Fire Department Federal Credit Union for the Baker and Mahan families.  Donations can be made to the Denver Firefighters Charitable Foundation in the names of Brian Baker or Patrick Mahan.

    Honor Watch for Patrick Mahan - 2 Additional Days Added

    Brother and Sisters,  Honor Watch is a longstanding and solemn tradition for deaths in the fire service. At least two other firefighters will remain with the fallen firefighter's body around the clock on "honor watch" in the days leading up to the funeral. Firefighters are always together, and we never leave anyone behind. Honor Watch is taking care of one of our own.

    Fillmore Way Multi Family Structure Fire

    At 2:57 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, 2021, South Metro Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a townhouse fire at 8192 S. Fillmore Way in Centennial. Responding crew observed a smoke plume from a distance and upon arrival they countered a large volume of fire consuming the back of the building.

    At 7:51 a.m. on Sunday, July 4, 2021, Local members responded to a vehicle accident involving a structure in the 5600 block of W. Hoover Pl. in Jefferson County. When members from Engine and Medic 13 arrived, they found a SUV that crashed through a fence and struck a small building at the Dutch Creek Pool. Paramedics treated an adult driver and passenger who were both transported to the hospital.

    Centennial Airport Training

    On the evening of Tuesday, June 29th, Local members and Centennial Airport conducted a training exercise that tested our policies, procedures, strategies, and tactics. At 6 p.m. a simulated inbound airplane declared an emergency and responders were dispatched by the air traffic control tower.
    2021 Line of Duty Rememberance

    On Saturday June 26, 2021, Local members honored the memory of our fallen firefighters and their families. The SMFR Honor Guard placed flowers at the memorial while Pipes and Drums Performed. The event also included a bell ceremony, comments from Fire Chief Bob Baker and Chaplain Paul Russell.

    Mineral Ave. Structure Fire
    06/27/21 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
    On Sunday afternoon Local members were dispatched to a house fire at 1976 E. Mineral Avenue in Centennial. As crews responded, a plume of smoke was visible from several miles away. Members from first arriving Engine and Medic 15 encountered a fully engulfed garage with flames extending to the second floor and eaves of the home.

    June 16 - 17, 2021 - Although Local members are always hard at work, some shifts are busier than others. Local members work 48-hour shifts.

    June 14th - The afternoon was busy for both Local 2086 and 1309 members, battling multiple fires including a garage fire and a commercial fire back-to-back. The garage fire was located near W. Geddes Place and W. Glasgow Place in Jefferson County.

    June 11, 2021 - 5:13 a.m. SMFR's 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call for a fire that was in the backyard of a residence near Lincoln Ave and Lone Tree Parkway. When District Chief 1 arrived on scene, he confirmed that it was a working structure fire viewing fire both on the primary home and extending into a secondary home.
