The AFL-CIO Convention On Political was held June 11th-12th. At the convention unions from across the state gather to discuss a political game plan for the upcoming year. There is no doubt that the next election cycle will be tough but all affliliates understand the absolute need to be heavily involved in politics,
The delegates also made some endorsements of political candidates. One of the most debated was that for U.S. Senate. Fire fighters made a passionate plea to remain neutral in the race. Senator Bennet still hasn't committed to voting for national collective bargaining for fire fighters. The same bill that enjoyed huge bi-partisan support while President Bush was in office. The fire fighter message in this race and several others is that we need to demand political accountibiity if we want to make gains.
There are many more details from the COPE that will be posted soon.
