NATIONAL COLLECTIVE BARGAINING FOR FIRE FIGHTERS

The House of Representatives passed our top legislative priority, national collective bargaining, as part of a supplemental appropriation bill. The issue now goes to the U.S. Senate, which is expected to consider our proposal in July either as part of this supplemental appropriation or as a free-standing bill.

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!!!

We need every CPFF member to ask their senators to stand with America's fire fighters. It is imperative that you contact both Colorado senators and encourage them to support the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act when it comes for a vote in July. Senator Michael Bennet has not committed to the bill even after several discussions with the CPFF! We fear that he will succumb to the pressure of the Municpal League, despite successfully working with Denver Fire Fighters in the past.

OUR ENEMIES ARE WORKING AGAINST FIRE FIGHTERS

Our opponents are working hard against us. The anti-labor National Right to Work Committee, Municipal League, and city managers are working the phones. We MUST respond. Tell Sen. Bennet that America's fire fighters and police officers deserve a voice in the workplace. Ask Sen. Bennet to support Colorado's first responders and vote for our bill.

Dear Senator Bennet & Chief of Staff Cecil, Fire fighters risk their lives every day to protect the public. They deserve the same right to discuss workplace issues with their employer that the federal government already grants to most employees. We are asking for Senator Bennet's support. Collective bargaining provides a forum where employers and employees can join together to tackle state and local budget shortfalls. During the current recession, fire fighters across the country are not only offering up concessions to balance municipal budgets, but they are saving jobs and preventing layoffs in the process. This is exactly what Sen. Bennet experienced when working closely with Denver Fire Fighters in his time in Denver. Collective bargaining has helped save hundreds of fire fighter jobs during the recession and the federal government has a vital interest in improving local emergency response operations through adequate staffing, training, and equipment. This truly benefits the community. We understand the pressure you are receiving from the Municipal League and other government leaders and hope that you can see past their effort to have control and eliminate your fire fighters voices. During the last election the voters sent a message that they expect change. This is exactly the type of change they want. We ask you to support Colorado's fire fighters. This bill is good for the communities you represent. This bill; does not allow public safety officers to strike does not require binding arbitration to resolve disputes does not take away authority of states and local jurisdictions to have the final say over all public safety decisions does not require any specific method to certify unions does not infringe on the rights of volunteer fire fighters does not mandate compulsory unionism.
